Piano Facts

Although the piano was first invented in 1709, it is one of the youngest musical instruments.

In spite of its youth, the piano has already outstripped all other instruments in the number of solo compositions written for it. Its popularity in the home & concert halls results from its versatility. Its range of more than seven octaves is greater than that of any other instrument, except a large pipe organ.

The piano can produce a range of sounds from the faintest pianissimo to the loudest fortissimo. It allows melodies and accompaniments to be played at several different levels of loudness - and at the same time. Ten note chords can be played, or several melodies at the same time, or whirlwind arpeggios, percussive and drum like rhythms, sharp accents, rapid repeat notes, a melody in long sustained tones, and fast scale passages.

The piano can suggest a whole orchestra; and many orchestral works have been transcribed so that they can be played on a piano.

Today the acoustic piano is still the most popular instrument for serious piano players. Electronic organs & pianos are light to move around, don't need tuning & are supposed to feel like a piano. I have been in the industry since 1985 & the more I speak to serious piano players, the more I hear that the piano is by far the best sounding of all the keyboard instruments. A piano holds its value for far longer than electronic instruments & is not a hybrid.
